Despite being the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia remains one of Europe's best kept secrets. Known for its pristine waters, exquisite natural beauty, and classic Italian charm (also with a rustic Spanish twist), things move at a slower pace compared to mainland Italy. It offers a much more relaxed feeling.
Unlike Greece and Croatia, which thrive on social media ads and expensive bottle service, Sardinia is a quiet haven where people come to get away from all the crap. There's a more low-key vibe and quiet accommodations, although you can still find a fun party hostel in Sardinia.
We've rounded up the best hostels and cheap accommodation across the island to make your search for the perfect place to stay as easy as possible.

What to expect from hostels in Sardinia

A journey from north to south Sardinia could take five hours, that's not long! As a result, there are manyplaces to stay, from cheap and cheerful to luxurious and glamorous. If you arrive by plane or ferry, your journey probably starts in Cagliari and the Costa Sud.
With its azure waters, the Costa Smeralda (the Emerald Coast) is the haunt of the rich and famous. Capo Testa is also an exquisite beach area in northern Sardinia, while Alghero is an old town with Spanish history and some worthwhile restaurants.
There are not many hostels in Sardinia, probably because the island creates a very relaxed vibe and doesn't have a big party scene. They make up for it with a ton of great cheap places.
Booking an affordable hostel or guest house is a great way to experience the local charm and vibe that Sardinia has to offerstay on budget. These accommodations are often locally owned and operated by residents who have called the island home for generations. The locals are so friendly and welcoming that they are always happy to offer tips and guidance on the best beaches, restaurants and outdoor adventures.
